Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. It is such a wonderful time to spend quality time with the people you love most. The idea of gathering together at your home is a wonderful way to give thanks and appreciation to your loved ones. Whether you’re playing football outside or cooking delicious food, it is all about spending time with family/friends. Getting the holidays started with some fun activities is all you need. Here are some of our best ideas on how to keep your family and friends entertained during this fun-filled holiday.
1. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an age-old tradition that many families enjoy every year. The parade started back in 1924. Watching giant balloons, floats, and marching bands roll through the busy streets of New York is a cozy and magical way to get the holidays started. How wonderful does it sound to be cuddled up by the fire watching the parade with friends and family? This is a perfect idea to get everyone in the right mindset for the rest of the day of food and fun.
2. Do a “Turkey Trot” Run
There are so many fun races around Thanksgiving that also raise money for some wonderful organizations in your area. The Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger is the perfect example of a way to have fun and help out. This race benefits programs for the homeless, and helps serve more than 800 meals to the hungry every day of the year. Doing a Thanksgiving run is a way to bring your family or friends together and do a fun activity, plus it is for a good cause and good for you.
3. Play Touch Football
Thanksgiving is about spending time with your loved ones, but for a lot of people it is also about a lot of football. Whether you’re watching you playing, this is such a fun activity to bring the whole group together. Playing touch football with your friends/family is such a perfect way to be active and have fun. This is a great way to get everyone together and have a few laughs along the way. Plus if you are bringing new people into the gathering it is the perfect ice-breaker.
4. Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen
Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time to volunteer and help those in need. There are so many opportunities to help out in a soup kitchen or food bank during the holidays. It also is a great way to bring your family/friends together and try something new. A small gift of your time could make a huge difference for those who need help during Thanksgiving. Plus, it is a wonderful way to teach your children the importance of helping others in need. There are many organizations you can choose from, here are a few in our community:
5. Play Some Games
Thanksgiving is about having fun with the people you love most. Why not have a fun board or card game going? This is a great way to have a little healthy competition and spend time together. My family always plays cards at our holiday get together and we have so many laughs about who is winning/losing.
6. Arts & Crafts
This is the perfect way to get creative and have fun while doing it. Also, this is a great way for children and they will have such a good time creating some fun treats. You can get super creative with these arts and crafts, one of the best spots for ideas is Pinterest. They have any craft idea you could think of plus details on how to get things started.
All of these options are wonderful ideas but honestly as long as you are spending time with loved ones and enjoying yourself, that is all that matters. We are hoping everyone enjoys a special Thanksgiving this year.
Wishing you all a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving Holiday!
